Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children’s Hospital serve as the regional tertiary referral center for the 49 Appalachian counties comprising Eastern Kentucky as well as the 11 counties surrounding Fayette County.

UK Trauma Programs serve Central and Eastern Kentucky, providing highly specialized care for trauma patients requiring advanced treatment. On average, our trauma centers provide care to an average of 5,000 severely injured trauma patients annually. Our Trauma Center physicians, nurses and staff are committed to providing timely, excellent and cost-effective care for patients with complex, multi-system trauma or single-system trauma requiring specialized surgical services. Our Trauma Centers are 2 of the 4 Level 1 Trauma Centers serving the needs of Kentuckians. Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children’s Hospital are both Level 1 Trauma Centers verified by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. We do this through quality data systems, education, prevention and research, guided by leadership in optimal data-driven trauma care. The UK HealthCare trauma programs mission, vision and goals are focused on using our resources to promote excellence in trauma patient care for our Adult and Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Centers.
